Day One – Fundamentals of Safe
and
Effective Handgun Operation

Day One is focused on building a strong foundation in handgun safety, operation, and marksmanship fundamentals. Students will receive structured instruction designed to develop safe handling habits, firearm familiarity, and confidence on the range.

Topics covered throughout the day include:

  • Firearm safety principles and range etiquette

  • Basic pistol knowledge and component identification

  • Safe loading and unloading procedures

  • Common malfunctions and corrective actions

  • Proper grip, stance, and shooting techniques

  • Sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control

  • Safe firearm handling under supervision


This portion of the course emphasizes responsible firearm ownership, practical skill development, and establishing consistent fundamentals that students can continue to build upon through future training and practice.

Day Two – Situational Awareness
and
Defensive Mindset

Day Two shifts focus toward the realities of personal safety, situational awareness, and the responsibilities that accompany defensive firearm ownership. This portion of the course is intentionally serious in nature and is designed to encourage thoughtful discussion, critical thinking, and informed decision-making. 

Topics covered include:

  • Situational awareness and threat recognition

  • Conflict avoidance and decision-making under stress

  • Case studies and examples involving violent encounters

  • Crime trends and statistical analysis

  • The importance of preparation, mindset, and personal responsibility

  • Legal and ethical considerations surrounding the defensive use of force​

Students should expect a more somber and discussion-oriented environment during this portion of the course. Some topics may be difficult or uncomfortable to consider, but they are presented with the goal of fostering awareness, preparedness, and a deeper understanding of the realities surrounding personal safety in today’s world.

 

This instruction is approached professionally and responsibly, with an emphasis on judgment, restraint, and the importance of avoiding conflict whenever possible.

Live Fire Instruction

The live fire portion of training is conducted in a one-on-one setting to provide each student with focused instruction and individualized feedback in a controlled environment.

These sessions are designed to reinforce the safety principles, handling skills, and marksmanship fundamentals covered during classroom instruction while allowing students to progress at an appropriate pace based on their experience level and comfort.

 

To simplify the training process and ensure consistency, all necessary equipment is provided, including:

  • Firearms

  • Ammunition

  • Targets

  • Eye protection

  • Hearing protection

During live fire instruction, emphasis is placed on:

  • Safe firearm handling

  • Proper shooting mechanics

  • Trigger control and accuracy fundamentals

  • Confidence and consistency on the firing line

 

The goal of these sessions is to provide students with practical experience, professional guidance, and a safe environment in which to develop and improve their skills.

HQL Class
$150

Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) Course

This 4-hour course is designed to fulfill the Maryland training requirement for individuals applying for a Handgun Qualification License (HQL), which is required to purchase, rent, or receive a handgun in the State of Maryland.

The course provides students with foundational instruction in firearm safety, responsible ownership, and basic handgun operation in a professional and structured environment.

Topics covered include:

  • Firearm safety rules and safe handling practices

  • Maryland firearm laws and transportation requirements

  • Handgun operation and basic terminology

  • Secure storage and responsibility of ownership

  • Fundamentals of marksmanship and shooting mechanics

  • Situational awareness and conflict avoidance


Students will also complete the required live-fire component under direct supervision.  The class is designed to accommodate both new and experienced shooters, with an emphasis on safety, confidence, and responsible firearm ownership.

This course is designed for current Maryland Wear and Carry Permit holders seeking to complete the required training component for permit renewal.
